Workforce Recruitment Program HBCU Information Session

Greetings Colleagues,

We are reaching out to extend a special invitation to HBCU staff members who support students with disabilities, including veterans, to join the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) as a School Coordinator.

About the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP):

The WRP is a valuable initiative that helps students and recent graduates with disabilities explore career opportunities within the federal service. Disabilities may include non-apparent disabilities, like mental or physical health conditions, neurodiversity, or learning disabilities.

Registration for the WRP School Coordinator position opens on April 8, 2024, and we are eager to engage HBCUs in this effort to enhance career prospects for students with disabilities.

As a WRP School Coordinator, you would:

  • Conduct outreach about the WRP to eligible students and recent graduates, including those with mental health and other disabilities that may not be easily identifiable or visible.
  • Approve student access to the WRP application from late August-October.
  • Schedule informational interviews between students and assigned federal recruiters.

Benefits for Your Institution:

  • Strengthen connections between your institution and federal employers.
  • Improve job and internship prospects for students with disabilities.
  • Expand your knowledge of Federal Government hiring through training and webinars.
  • Advance diversity and inclusion efforts at your institution.

How to Join:

We invite the faculty and staff members at your institution who work with disabled students, including veterans, to consider becoming a WRP School Coordinator. Multiple staff members can participate, and we encourage collaboration between career, disability, and veteran’s services offices.

To register, interested staff members can register at WRP.gov from April 8th through June.

Information Sessions

We will host a virtual information session on April 9 at 1PM ET, and we hope you will attend and share with your colleagues. We also will host a listening session in the coming weeks specifically for HBCUs featuring first-hand accounts from other School Coordinators on how to find success for students through the program. We encourage your staff to attend these sessions to learn more about the WRP and its benefits.
