The U.S. Department of Labor announced the availability of $20 million in funding to provide information technology training and related employment services to Job Corps students.

Administered by the department’s Employment and Training Administration – and authorized by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 – the Job Corps Information Technology Academy will provide students expanded career and technical training, career counseling, supportive services and work-based learning opportunities that lead to careers.

The department will fund up to five projects that will explore and implement innovative approaches to Job Corps IT-focused training that can be scaled for use across the Job Corps program. Successful applicants will design student-centered training that promotes equity, job quality and worker voice. The academy will support projects that establish formal employer partnerships and align with the Good Jobs Principles, which the department launched in partnership with the Department of Commerce.

Founded in 1964, Job Corps is a federal career technical training and education program for eligible young people who aspire to higher education and good jobs. With more than 120 residential and nonresidential locations across America, training is available in the nation’s fastest-growing industries to eligible young people ages 16 to 24. Job Corps provides programs and services at no charge to students.
