The quality of a student’s teacher is the single most influential in-school factor in academic achievement and future life outcomes. It is important to have a teaching workforce that reflects the student population in order to meet the demands of our increasingly diverse nation.

Black teachers represent 7% of the teaching workforce and Black males only represent 2%.

With the #BlackMenTeach online campaign, the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans (Initiative) features Black male teachers nationwide to demonstrate that while they are underrepresented, there are many Black males who are dedicating themselves to serving their community through teaching.

Nominate a Black male educator by filling out our Nomination Form and emailing the Initiative at WHBlackInitiative@ed.gov. Be sure to include the educators name and contact information.

We will be featuring recognized educators on this webpage and social media.
