New OSEP 2021 Discretionary Grant Awards

In fiscal year 2021, OSERS’ Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) provided over $70.3 million to fund programs that help educate children and youth with disabilities to assist states and local districts to improve results for infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities ages birth through 21.

The State Personnel Development Grants help state educational agencies reform and improve their systems for personnel preparation and professional development of individuals providing early intervention, educational, and transition services to improve results for children with disabilities.

Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities | 84.325

The purposes of the Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities program are to:

  1. help address state-identified needs for personnel preparation in special education, early intervention, related services, and regular education to work with children, including infants and toddlers, with disabilities; and
  2. ensure that those personnel have the necessary skills and knowledge, derived from practices that have been determined through scientifically based research and experience, to be successful in serving those children.

Technical Assistance and Dissemination | 84.326

The purpose of the National Comprehensive Center on Improving Literacy for Students with Disabilities is to identify or develop evidence-based literacy assessment tools and professional development activities and identify evidence-based instruction, strategies, and accommodations for students at risk of not attaining full literacy skills due to a disability, including dyslexia impacting reading or writing, or developmental delay impacting reading, writing, language processing, comprehension, or executive functioning.
