Greetings ED Stakeholder,
We wanted to inform you of some changes that will be happening to the Office of Innovation and Improvement (OII) and the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE) websites in the coming months. Executive Order 13781–the Comprehensive Plan for Reorganizing the Executive Branch–which called for greater efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability in federal agencies, presented the Department with an opportunity to rethink our work. In response to this Executive Order, OII and OESE have been consolidated into a single office. We believe this new structure will provide greater efficiency, better support, and more effective coordination to our grantees and stakeholders.
Currently, both OII and OESE maintain separate websites. In the coming months, those websites will be consolidated into a single, unified website. Please continue to visit this website in order to receive updates during this transition. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to continuing to serve you.
The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE) is charged with directing, coordinating, and recommending policy for programs designed to:
- Assist State and local educational agencies to improve the achievement of preschool, elementary, and secondary school students.
- Help ensure equal access to services leading to such improvement for all children, particularly children with high needs or otherwise in need of special assistance and support.
- Foster educational improvement at the State and local levels.
- Provide financial assistance to local educational agencies whose local revenues are affected by Federal activities.
To accomplish these goals, OESE administers more than 80 grant programs through 8 program offices.
