Webinar: Raising the Bar for Native Students through Supports for Native Languages, Native Teachers and Tribal Education Agencies
June 13 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The U.S. Department of Education recently announced three individual grant competitions focused on the immediate and unique needs of Native American students across the country. The first was the first ever launch of a Native American Language Resource Center (NALRC) program to support the development of Native languages as a medium of instruction. The second was launching a Native American Teacher Retention Initiative (NATRI) competition to support teacher leadership models that increase the retention of effective, experienced Native educators. The third was a continued commitment to support funding the State Tribal Educational Partnership (STEP) program to further strengthen the ability for Tribal Educational Agencies to promote Tribal self-determination in public education through trilateral partnership with State and Local Educational Agencies. Each program addresses critical challenges, and this session focuses on hearing from subject matter expertise on the needs that led to the development of these competitions.
