Andrea Ramirez, Acting Executive Director in the Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives

Andrea Ramirez, a doctor in philosophy with a focus on organizational leadership, is the acting executive director of the Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives at the U.S. Department of Education. In this capacity, she leads the Department in its efforts and engagement with faith leaders and community-based organizations to further the Department’s mission of student-focused education.
From June 2015 to December 2017, Ramirez served as the executive director of the Faith and Education Coalition of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference. There, she oversaw key education initiatives nationwide that helped build a coalition of pastors and church leaders focused on ensuring all children have access to high-quality education regardless of income, zip code or race.
Ramirez’ writing has been featured in Christian Post and Christianity Today, and on the websites The 74, Fox and She has also appeared on CBN News online. In addition, from October 2015 to December 2017, she hosted the “Raising the Standards” Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) Salsa weekly television program focused on the nexus of faith and education. She also served as a trustee for Dallas Baptist University and as an advisor for Christianity Today Women, Harvard University Graduate School of Education’s Leaders Institute for Faith and Education, and Rice University Religion and Public Life Program’s “Faith at Work” study.
Ramirez holds a doctorate in philosophy with a focus on organizational leadership from Regent University (Virginia) and was named the 2014 Outstanding Ph.D. for her cohort. She earned a bachelor’s in business administration and a Master of Business Administration from Dallas Baptist University (Texas). Her research has contributed to educational curriculum related to drug and bullying prevention along with leadership development. Ramirez lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband and their two children.

Angel Rush, Management Program Analyst in the Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives

Angel Rush joined the U.S. Department of Education in 1998. She has worked for the Office of Management, Federal Student Aid, Office of the Secretary and the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education Office of State Support.  In May 2016 Angel joined the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships where she provides a high level of technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders to support the mission of the Department and Center.  Angel serves as the primary point of contact for the Center’s outreach efforts in family engagement, early learning and 21st Century Community Learning Center programs.  She earned a Master of Education Management and a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Acquisition and Contract Management from Strayer University.
